The young safety getting reps with the starters during organized team activities might come as a surprise to some. It’s 2020 sixth-round draft pick Josh Metellus, not 2022 first-round pick Lewis Cine.Though a lot can change for the Vikings in training camp next month, as of right now, it appears Metellus is ahead of Cine in the pecking order behind starting safeties Harrison Smith and Cam Bynum.Maybe even more telling is how new defensive coordinator Brian Flores has been using Metellus over the past month. On any given play in practice, Kirk Cousins might take a snap and have to worry about Metellus lining up in centerfield as a safety, in the slot as a cornerback, or in the box as a linebacker. He quickly is becoming a jack of all trades for the Vikings defense.“I think a lot of it is Coach Flo’s trust in me to learn multiple spots,” Metellus said. “That’s really what it comes down to.”That trust is something Metellus has been working to ear...Vikings receiver Jalen Nailor (aka Speedy) on fast track to more playing time

The coach gave Jalen Nailor simple instructions. As soon as he hit the ball, he was to run as fast as he could. That’s exactly what Nailor did. He couldn’t have been much older than 5 at the time, yet he rounded the bases with ease for a home run. The ball barely left the infield. The legend grew when Nailor traded the baseball diamond for the football field. He was playing Pop Warner for the Lancaster Jets, about an hour north of Los Angeles, and was among the smallest kids on the team. That might have been an issue except that nobody could catch him.“He was the fastest kid out there,” his father Jay Nailor said. “That’s how he got the nickname Speedy.”That moniker has stuck with the 24-year-old receiver ever since. And for good reason. He has relied on his speed at every stop of his football career so far, using it to dominate in high school with Bishop Gorman, put up big numbers in college with Michigan State, and make a name for himself in...Stuyvesant Falls VFW to celebrate 75th anniversary

KIRKWOOD -- People often talk about how brave police officers and firemen are, so it's easy to forget about the hardworking civilian workers who keep a city running smoothly. Jerry Redmond, who has worked as a sanitation worker for the City of Kirkwood for many years, was recently thanked in a moving letter.Dearest Mr. Redmond,You, sir, are my hero! Really! Last month, you delivered a trash dumpster to my sister's house off of Fillmore Lane. After you turned to return to the lane, I turned to go back to the house, tripped on something and fell on my face. As I cried out in pain, you swooped in like an angel sent from God.You helped me up, saying that I needed to get to the emergency room. You helped me into the house and to the kitchen sink where you wet paper towels to wash my face. You helped me to the sofa to lay down and got me an ice pack for my bleeding and bruised face. You even made conversation with me so that I didn't pass out. (I clearly remember this, because you told me t...LT Garett Bolles couldn’t protect Russell Wilson after 2022 injury and it made him angry: “I’m hungrier than ever”

Left tackles are tasked with being protectors and Garett Bolles is just that when it comes to his quarterback. That’s what made 2022 so difficult for the Broncos veteran. As Russell Wilson was harassed by defensive opponents, sacked 55 times, hurt twice and struggled to find his footing with a new franchise and city, Bolles could only watch. As the public discourse pile-on stacked up on Wilson through each viral moment and his roughest season as a professional, Bolles couldn’t anchor down, get his hands in position and stop the oncoming rush.“It’s like a forest fire,” Bolles said of the torrent of criticism toward Wilson last year. “It starts in one corner and then the wind blows, it just blows all over and burns thousands and thousands of acres. That’s pretty much what happened.”Though criticism of Wilson’s on-field performance – and the Broncos’ historically poor offense – was warranted, certainly the discourse also featured plenty of hot air.Bolles said Thursday he was “angry”...Latest news
