By Arleigh Rodgers and Michael Goldberg | Associated Press/Report for AmericaCHICAGO — On an early morning in June, Flower Nichols and her mother set off on an expedition to Chicago from their home in Indianapolis. The family was determined to make it feel like an adventure in the city, though that wasn’t the primary purpose of the trip. The following afternoon, Flower and Jennilyn Nichols would see a doctor at the University of Chicago to learn whether they could keep Flower, 11, on puberty blockers. They began to search for medical providers outside of Indiana after April 5, when Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a law banning transgender minors from accessing puberty blockers and other hormone therapies, even after the approval of parents and the advice of doctors. At least 20 states have enacted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming care for trans minors, though several are embroiled in legal challenges. For more than a decade prior, such treatments were available to...Oakland murder trial will center on three human teeth picked up off the pavement

OAKLAND — On July 10, 2021, a local cannabis dispensary owner named Halia Gebrezghi was robbed and fatally shot while he walked to his truck wearing a diamond chain and a Rolex watch. Now, exactly two years after Gebrezghi’s death, the trial for his alleged killer has begun. Prosecutors content that Twine and another man, whose identity remains a mystery, ran up to Gebrezghi with masks and guns, kicking off a chaotic series of events that ended with Gebrezghi grabbing his pistol and shooting on robber in the mouth before being killed by a bullet to the heart. The three teeth were linked to Twine by a DNA test, and he showed up to San Francisco General Hospital later that evening, with a...Condominium in Milpitas sells for $1.5 million

A Russian resolution would continue aid deliveries for six months and a Brazil-Switzerland resolution backed by most council members and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres would authorize a 12-month extension. The vote had been scheduled for Monday but was delayed until Tuesday morning.Brazil, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates are seeking a compromise with Russia on the time frame and a vote could take place later Monday or Tuesday, diplomats said, speaking on condition of anonymity because discussions have been private. The delivery of aid to the area has increas...2023 All-Star Game Starting Lineups
